An the face of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the US has announced additional aid of almost $327 million (332 million euros). The money is intended to support humanitarian organizations and finance emergency aid – for example in the form of cash, medicines and the provision of accommodation.
Refugee Afghans in neighboring countries should also benefit from the aid. Since the Taliban took power in August 2021, the United States has reportedly provided $1.1 billion for humanitarian aid in the region.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on the international community to live up to its commitments and support the people of Afghanistan. The US is trying to get its support through aid organizations directly to the Afghan people – bypassing the Taliban government, which it does not recognize.
