Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the establishment of a special tribunal because of Russia’s war of aggression against his country. “A crime has been committed against Ukraine and we demand just punishment,” Zelenskyy said in a video address broadcast to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday. In addition to the establishment of a special tribunal, the President demanded, among other things, a compensation fund for Ukraine and the withdrawal of Russia’s veto right in the UN Security Council.

Among other things, Russia made itself responsible for the “crime of aggression” and the “murder” of thousands of people, Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian President was the only head of state at this year’s UN general debate who was allowed to deliver his speech via video. After the video address, a large audience in the hall of the UN General Assembly gave standing applause.
