Boris Johnson confidant: Truss sacks British Trade Secretary Burns over misconduct

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has sacked Trade Secretary Conor Burns for “grave misconduct”. The 50-year-old confidante of ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson must leave the cabinet “with immediate effect”, said the office of the conservative head of government, who has only been in office since September, on Friday in London.

Details of the allegations against Burns were not announced. The Tories Parliament Office said Burns would also be temporarily expelled from the Conservative Group.

The reason for this is “allegations of inappropriate behavior earlier this week”. These would be taken very seriously.

According to the British media, the allegations go back to Burns’ behavior at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.

Burns told The Sun newspaper that he was “fully cooperating with the investigation” and was looking forward to “clearing his name.” (AFP)
