Corrected by speaking of “inspirational leadership of Volodymyr Zelensky”
Boris Johnson mistakenly thanked Putin for his “inspirational leadership” instead of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.
The slip happened during his first major speech since being ousted as Britain’s prime minister, according to Sky News.
In a general discussion about the war in Ukraine, Johnson said it was important to “redouble our defense of the Ukrainians” if Putin redoubled his “aggressiveness”.
However, as he listed the reasons why Ukraine’s counterattack is proving successful accidentally thanked Putinto later correct by thanking Zelensky.
“Thanks, of course, to the inspired leadership of Vladimir Putin,” he is heard saying, with him immediately correcting: “The inspired leadership of Volodymyr Zelensky, forgive me».
